- Have a routine: All year long, it’s important to make sure your children brush their teeth twice a day for two minutes at a time. Part of this routine should be flossing, as well, because it can fight off tooth decay and gum disease.
- Water should be the #1 beverage: Hot chocolate and sparkling cider may appeal to your kids more than water, but water cleanses the mouth and helps with saliva production to deposit essential minerals in the mouth that help build tooth enamel. It also helps wash away food particles, especially sugar.
- Give the gift of dental health: Maybe your son would rather have a cool toy like Baby Yoda plushie rather than a toothbrush, so mix it up and add a fun kid’s toothbrush to his stocking stuffers, instead.
- Don’t be on the “naughty” list! Teach your children to stop sucking on their thumbs, as this can interfere with how their permanent teeth grow.
- Kick off 2020 right: Make dental hygiene goals for the upcoming year, whether that includes twice-yearly dental checkups/cleanings for your kids, letting go of their pacifier or baby bottle by the appropriate age, or curbing their sweet tooth.
